Valley of the Sun Gardeners

About

Fifty Years of Gardening

About our club, The Valley of the Sun Gardeners, established in 1965, is the oldest general gardening club in Phoenix. Members include men and women of all gardening skill levels, from beginners to seasoned horticulturists. Our community thrives on shared knowledge and passion for plants, making it a diverse and welcoming space for all.

Over the decades, we have celebrated countless successes, from the blossoming of our members' home gardens to the thriving community projects that bring neighbors together. This history of camaraderie and growth is what makes our club unique.

The focus of the club is as much social as it is educational. The Valley of the Sun Gardeners wholeheartedly agree that 'gardening is cheaper than therapy and you get tomatoes!' We enjoy monthly speakers, slide presentations, and demonstrations on various plant-related topics, enabling members to expand their gardening expertise while building friendships.

Our activities are varied and engaging, including field trips to local nurseries and botanical gardens, guided garden tours that showcase the beauty of diverse plants, and lively garden parties that foster community spirit. Our famous July ice cream social is a highlight, bringing joy and refreshment during the hot summer months, while our Christmas potluck banquet features live entertainment, delicious food, and the perfect opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments together.

Additionally, we hold a twice-yearly raffle offering a variety of plant and garden-related items, with proceeds benefiting the Valley of the Sun Gardeners club. This not only supports the club’s initiatives but also allows members to take home unique gardening treasures. The Valley of the Sun Gardeners operates as a non-profit 501(c)(3) gardening club, ensuring that your membership dues are tax-deductible. Individual membership is priced at $30.00, and family membership is $40.00. We invite anyone with a love for gardening to join us in our journey of growth.

Through our diverse programs and activities, members gain hands-on experience and valuable insights to enhance their gardening skills. The camaraderie experienced within our club fosters a supportive environment where members can ask questions, share challenges, and celebrate successes. Whether you are looking to grow your own vegetables, create a beautiful flower garden, or simply learn more about plants, our club has something for everyone.

Our commitment to promoting eco-friendly gardening practices includes educating members about composting, rainwater harvesting, and using pollinator-friendly plants. By embracing these practices, we not only enhance our gardens but also contribute to a healthier planet.
